Class Levels:
Beginning -
You have never taken a dance class before or you haven't learned
that particular dance . Or, you have taken a dance class, but would
really like to brush up on your basics.
Intermediate -
You have good working knowledge of Lindy, Shag, or Balboa and are ready to move on to your intermediate moves.
Advanced -
You are an advanced dancer with a good vocabulary of beginner and
intermediate moves, and are ready to tackle more complex choreography.
All Levels -
Anyone can participate in this class, it is not level
specific.
General Information:
1. You must be a weekend pass holder or competitors pass holder to compete in the contests.
2. Fees are $10 per person in advance, $15 at the door.
3. All contests are "anything goes" - lifts, drops, aerials permitted except amateur Jack & Jill.
4. We reserve the
right to cancel any contest that does not have at least five couples as
of the day of the event (3 groups for team).
5. Please note, formats of all contests are subject to change without notice, as determined by the number of contestants.
6. Costumes are encouraged and appreciated!.
Contest Descriptions:
Showcase -
Couples perform a routine to their own music, song length to be between 2:30 and 3:30 minutes.
Team -
Minimum of three couples to perform a routine to their own music, song length to be between 3 and 4 minutes.
Swing Jack & Jill -
Dancers rotate to partners randomly drawn in prelims
and finals. Aerials not permitted but minor drops, lifts and slides OK.
Amateur level dancers who do not teach swing or have not won any titles.
Masters Jack & Jill -
Same as Swing Jack & Jill but for the professional level
dancer whether or not they teach or have won any titles. Social aerials
permitted.
Slow Jack & Jill -
Same as Swing Jack & Jill but this time you get to show off
you slow and sexy style of swing and slow dancing. Open to all levels.
Swing Couples -
This is a just dance contest, not routines. Dancers dance will
dance in a group heat to three different tempos, finals two couples at
a time.
Masters Couples -
This is a just dance contest, not routines. Dancers dance will
dance in a group heat to three different tempos, finals showcased "jam
style".
Slow Couples -
This is a just dance contest, not routines. Dancers dance will
dance in a group heat to three different tempos, finals two couples at
a time.
Swing Pro/Am -
Division is open to one pro and one amateur dancer. Dancers
will dance in group heat to three different tempos. Pros may dance with up to two amateurs.
